I wish I were in dual diagnosis at some point. I had trouble with getting someone to believe that there was something wrong with me and then I had different diagnosis depending on the psychiatrist. Finally after being sober for a year and a half, I started getting diagnosis, but pdocs didn't agee on what I had. I think dual diagnosis would have saved me a lot of aggravation and pain. Here I am 5 years sober and just now getting treated for Borderline Personality Disorder.

The thing that has kept me off alcohol was a great addiction therapist who worked with me and geared the therapy to me. But more importantly, my determination and commitment to stay off alcohol. I don't crave alcohol anymore but I am in emotional pain a lot and depressed.

So I have now started DBT and am really excited about it. Wish me luck. There needs to be alot more dual diagnosis programs AND there needs to be much more recognition by the medical community of drug and alcohol addiction. Otherwise, a little girl can grow up and know there is something wrong with her, but never know quite what it is..............
